Principal’s Updates

It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of another academic year. THANK YOU to all staff, families, and community members for making 2017-18 a success. Huff Love was everywhere!

As a result of successful collaboration between our school’s many stakeholders, Huff students experience academic programs and enrichment that would be the envy of any school in the country. Beyond excellent instruction in “reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic,” our kiddos participated in hands-on, project-based learning and robust enrichment experiences that have expanded, for both themselves and the adults in their lives, the definition of what it means to be educated in the 21st century. And it will only get better as we reflect, learn from our experiences, and apply our Growth Mindset. We are well on our journey towards the goals set out in our district’s Strategic Plan and Huff’s Roadmap to the Capstone. For this, and for many other reasons too numerous to list, I am tremendously proud.

I hope everyone takes time to rest, enjoy time with loved ones, and recharge this summer. See you in August!

Last Day of School and Summer Communication

Friday is a minimum day--students will be dismissed at 11:55 a.m. Due to construction, all non-staff members must be off campus by 12:30 p.m. that day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The only exception is the YMCA, which will operate normally that day.

Please check the website for updates this summer. We will let everyone know as soon as we have an August opening date for our office. Thank you for your flexibility.

Roadmap to the Capstone

How can we, as a school community, prepare our students to demonstrate the attributes of the District Strategic Plan’s “Profile of a Graduate”? Over the last several months, our staff and School Site Council have been grappling with this big question. We are proud to share the results of our work: a Roadmap to the Capstone which will guide our efforts in the near future. It will help us ensure, collectively, that we meet our mission to inspire, prepare, and empower every student.

2018-19 STEM Classes, RTI, and PBL

To improve our students’ Project Based Learning (PBL) and Response to Instruction (RTI) experiences in 2018-19, we will be separating them into distinct periods of time. Each week, every student will attend two PBL-based STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) classes and also have two opportunities to participate in differentiated RTI with their classroom teacher. Grade level teaching teams will also be designing and facilitating at least two high-quality PBL units during the school year with Science and/or Social Studies as their foundation. English Language Arts and Mathematics instruction will remain largely unchanged. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions.

New Site Council Members

Thank you and congratulations to parents Maria Lara, Naemi Strobel, and Brooke Heymach Friedman for stepping up to serve on the School Site Council for the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 school years. We look forward to your important contributions!

Tech Support Needed!

Huff PTA is in search of web-savvy parents who could help with managing our email accounts, Google Apps, and/or advise with website setup and hosting. There’s a little work to be done over the summer, but it’s mostly on your own schedule and the workload is light through the school year! Ideal candidates would have younger students so they might be able to help us for more than a year. Email Shannon at webmaster@huffpta.org if you can help or if you have questions.

InPlay partnership helps parents connect with opportunities for students

Summer is around the corner! Here's a time-saving way to find local and affordable summer camps for your kids. Click here for a list of programs: MV.inplay.org.

InPlay is a non-profit working with MVWSD and Santa Clara County to offer this online service that helps families find local and affordable afterschool and summer camp programs. Many Mountain View area out-of-school programs are listed on one searchable site including: City-funded and 50+ other non-profit and for-profit programs.

MWVSD provides this as a resource to parents who are seeking additional learning opportunities for their students. MVWSD has not reviewed the activity programs and does not specifically endorse any of the programs.

If you have any questions or need help with using the site contact: info@inplay.org.
