Recipe for Excellent Students October 4, 1991
One[school] of children of all creeds, races, and colors.
Heaping doses of praise.
Daily doses of "Your are bright, you can do it."
Plenty of "You children are a promise, a great bundle of potentiality."
Frequent reminders of "I will not let you fail."
Mix thoroughly with bright, motivated, positive teachers
until the eyes of children hold wonder like a cup.
Nurture above children for a few years, and there will be ample servings
for the locales of the world, for society, and with equal ease,
these children will one day maintain the American dream.
The temperature should always be warm, caring, dedicated, and genuinely loving.
This is our school. This is Huff Love.
Getting to and from School
One of the great benefits of a neighborhood school is that students can walk, ride their bicycles, skateboards, or scooters, or use rollerskates. We urge students to take advantage of this opportunity, but advise parents to take the following precautions:
• Take time to map out and practice travel routes.
• Review basic safety rules for crossing streets at corners, avoiding strangers, etc.
• Arrange for walking or biking “buddies” so students do not travel on their own.
• All students are legally required to wear helmets if they use bicycles, skates, skateboards, or scooters.
• Purchase a lock that is secure and your child feels comfortable using.
• Have a backup plan in the event of inclement weather.
• If you choose to drive your children to Huff, please use the driveway to drop them off in the front of the school. Please do not park in the yellow zone and do not use the gate at Carol Avenue as a drop-off or pick-up location. Remember that the speed limit is 25 mph surrounding schools, and be sure to exercise great caution at all times.
If Your Child is Absent or Late
Parents should call the office to inform us of absences and tardies (e.g., for a doctor’s appointment). Please leave a message on the Attendance Line (526-3490 x3080) if calling before or after office hours.
Medicine at School
Children who may need medication at school must leave the medicine in the office and have a form completed by parents and their doctors authorizing us to administer the medicine at school. Children should never have possession of any medication while at school. This includes asthma inhalers and non-prescription medications, such as Tylenol, Advil., and cough drops.
Homework Policy
Under the guidelines specified in the district-wide Homework Policy , Huff school has created its own detailed homework policy.
