Huff School Site Council

SSC Overview

The School Site Council is a policy setting and governing body operating at the school level. Its responsibility is to set the overall vision and strategic plan for the school. The vision is to provide an environment that challenges, supports, and inspires each Huff student toward his or her potential.

The SSC is a group of 10 parents, teachers, and staff (including the principal). The Site Council meets once a month to review progress towards its goals and update the 3-year School Plan to ensure it is achieving the vision. The plan encompasses the key curriculum areas of Language Arts and Mathematics as well as English Language Fluency, Community, Enrichment, and Safety,

The Site Council oversees the spending of state-provided categorical funds. The plan is driven using metrics based on the STAR assessment results as well as the annual Parent survey results. The state sets the standards, the district sets the curriculum, but it is really up to the SSC to see that it all is working for Huff. For example, this may mean purchasing additional books and computers to support the Accelerated Reader Program or funding an intervention teacher to support kids who need extra help with English Language fluency or basic math skills. The SSC also works closely with the PTA who drive much of work in the areas of Enrichment and Community.

How to get involved

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the School Site Council in some way. Stay informed by reading the bi-monthly SSC Updates in your Huff N Stuff packet. Attend some of the monthly meetings*. Consider running for a membership role in the spring. Or just get to know the SSC members and share your ideas, insights, and concerns.

*You are welcome (and encouraged!) to attend any of the meetings. Meetings are held in the staff lounge on the first Tuesday of every month from 3:30 –5:00pm.
