Literacy Week - Mon. 12/4 to Fri. 12/8

Next week is Literacy Week! It's a new event for the students which is sponsored by the Huff PTA. We hope to encourage the students to read, introduce them to new books, and inspire them to try some new ones.

A schedule of the Literacy Week events that will take place during lunchtime can be found here. We need your help to facilitate these events! Click here to sign up to volunteer.

On Monday 12/4, we will be posting the My Favorite Book worksheets that went home this week, so the students can share their favorite books with each other. If your child wants to participate, turn in the worksheet to the office by Fri. 12/1.

On Tuesday 12/5, there will be a Book Swap at lunchtime. Have your child bring a book from home that they are ready to part with and they can swap it for a book they have not read before.

K-3 students will have an author visit with Tim McCanna, a local children's author, on Fri. 12/8. An order form for his books went home this week. If you are interested in purchasing a personalized signed copy of his book(s), return the order form and a check to the office by Fri. 12/1. Click here for the order form.

MVEF is thankful for donors like you!

Mountain View Educational Foundation is so thankful for the generosity of donors this fall. Parents, together with corporate sponsors, have donated over $400,000 this school year. These donations allow MVEF to honor its commitment to the District to fund CSMA art and music, hands-on science, environmental education, after-school sports, extended day electives, and more.

MVEF is thrilled with the progress but still have a long way to go to hit their $750,000 goal. Support MVEF by attending the gala, asking your company about corporate matches, or donate at

Art and Music Learning Supports ALL Learning!

You might have noticed that your kids have a natural love for art and music. But did you know that research shows that music and theater studies strongly correlate with better performance in both math and reading? And that many studies show that art studies and activities help keep high-risk students from dropping out? MVEF is proud to fund CSMA art and music at our schools! Ask your child what he or she learned today in their music or art class!

Living Classroom Winter Volunteer Training!

Mountain View Whisman School District’s Living Classroom program inspires our students to value the natural world through garden-based education. We provide Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms (in all 8 Mountain View Whisman elementary schools) with hour-long lessons that correlate with current science, math, and social studies standards. Living Classroom uses a hands-on, inquiry approach to learning which ensures our lessons are effective AND fun!

Last year we reached thousands of students and taught over 550 lessons with the help of our volunteers. Volunteering with Living Classroom is rewarding, enjoyable, and no prior teaching or gardening experience is required. Interested in sharing your love of nature with students?
