Operation Gratitude is back!
Too much candy in your house after Halloween? Why not donate them at school to Operation Gratitude? Huff is teaming up with Grant Road Dental to collect and donate extra candy to our men and women in the Armed Services. There will be collection bins outside of the office for a week after Halloween. Special thanks to third grader Lara P for spearheading this three years in a row!
Want text messages from the District? Opt in!
MVWSD has the capability to send text messages, but we are required to ask you first to opt-in before receiving text messages from the District. MVWSD would send you texts infrequently, for the purpose of notifying you of emergencies or with important, time-sensitive information.
Here’s how to opt in. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to receive text messages from the District at any time by texting one of the short codes listed below to 68453 using the cell phone number that the District has on record.
- Opt-in: "Y", "YES", "OPTIN", "OPT IN", and "SUBSCRIBE" are all acceptable keywords for subscribing to SMS text messaging.
- Opt-out: "END", "CANCEL", "OPT OUT", "OPTOUT", "STOP", "QUIT", and "UNSUBSCRIBE" will cancel SMS messages to the recipient.
You may have received a text message and opted in when this service was first added in 2015 or when your cell phone number was added to our system.
In order to receive messages from the District you need to opt-in from the number that is listed as the cell contact number in our student information system. If you need to update this number, please contact your school.
Huff PTA Parent Satisfaction Survey
At our 1st General PTA meeting last month (Sept. 14) we heard questions from new and current members that led to the need for baseline data from our community. In order to serve you better, we would like ALL parents to participate in this brief survey: http://tinyurl.com/y9xdeva2
Please complete the survey by November 1. We plan to share the survey results at the next General meeting on Nov. 16 and use a similar survey annually to gauge community satisfaction and requests. Adding your comments to the survey will help us understand how Huff PTA can best serve our community… especially our students! Thank you! - Hera & PTA Board

Donated to MVEF yet? Avoid the call and make your tax-deductible donation now!
Have your elementary students showed you a beautiful piece of art they made in their art class taught by a CSMA teacher? Sung a song their CSMA teacher taught them? Did your middle schooler run cross country this fall or join AM choir? These are just some of the programs made possible by your donations to the Mountain View Educational Foundation.
* MVEF will be holding its annual phone-a-thon on October 25, so donate today to avoid the call! mvef.org/donations
Mountain View Educational Foundation needs to raise $750,000 this year to fund all of the programs it supports. MVEF raises and distributes critical funds to ensure that all our students get a competitive, well-rounded education through core programs in art, music, STEM exploration, leadership, and middle school extended-day electives and sports.

The session is appropriate for adults with children of any age, and definitely relevant for adults with children approaching puberty through their teen years.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Come early to connect with resources!
- Interpretation (Spanish support)
- Child care
- Transportation (Bus departs from Castro Elementary and Graham Middle at 6 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m.)
MVWSD uses data to inform its initiatives and decisions on all aspects of its services. While it’s important that we learn from you, we also know you’re busy, and we want to balance the time involved with District surveys with our need for information to serve our students and families.
To help with this, the District tracks the number of surveys given annually. This year, these are the major, district wide surveys that you will be asked to participate in:
Climate survey for staff, students (grades 5, 7) and all parents - November 6
LCAP survey for staff, students and parents - February
Thank you in advance for your participation, time and thoughtfulness.
After School Programs
The Huff After School Programs List 2017-18 is now available here. Check back frequently for updates over the next few weeks.
We plan to continue the Colorcycle Marker, Highlighter, Sharpie, and Dry Eraser Pen recycling program this coming year. Last year our community kept 3,890 items out of landfill! Please bring your used markers, highlighters, dry erase markers, and sharpies to the office and drop them in the Colorcycle box to keep them out of landfill.
