April 25, 2018
As our Superintendent shared in a recent newsletter, Huff has been named a California Distinguished School for 2018. I’m incredibly proud of our students, staff, families, and community for this achievement, the latest in a string of state and national recognitions since 2014. Huff is truly a special place; thank you to each and every one for playing an important role in our success.
The California Department of Education will be honoring the 287 distinguished elementary schools (out of over 5,800 in the state) in Anaheim on May 3. I will be traveling there to represent Huff. Check our website and social media accounts for photos! Congratulations, all!
CAASPP Testing Has Begun
This week, our third, fourth, and fifth grade classes are taking the state English Language Arts test. Next week, we will be giving the Math test on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the 5th grade Science Test on Thursday. Extra time and makeup sessions will take place in the afternoons and the week after next.
Families, thank you for your support: please avoid appointments on testing days and make sure your children get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast, just as they always would. If you have any questions about specifics or anything else, call the office.
MVEF News - CSMA
It is CSMA Concert season at our elementary schools! Thanks to donations from parents and community members, the Mountain View Educational Foundation is able to fund in-class music lessons led by Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) music teachers at every elementary school. A 5th-grade teacher had this to say about the program, “The music program helps build confidence, responsibility, and is a great part of our curriculum. The music teachers are knowledgeable, passionate, and they have consistently inspired many students to continue to play their instruments.” Thank you, donors, for your generosity and support. You can learn more and make a donation at mvef.org. Let the music play!
Computer Science Classes
Thanks our PTA, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be experiencing five more sessions of Computer Science classes between now and the end of the school year. Our provider, Code for fun, has shared this progress report document that outlines the goals of the program and students’ progress toward them. The document also has a summary of the next five weeks.
