Principal’s Message

Exciting news! This spring, our students will be able to unleash their creative potential during the first “Children’s Business Fair at Huff.” Our young entrepreneurs will design and build a small business from the ground up, allowing them to practice many of the attributes in our Profile of a Graduate: critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, etc. The best part is... they’ll get to sell to real customers!

NEW Incoming Families Only - Huff School Tour: December 14

We will be hosting a school tour for families of incoming students for the next school year on December 14 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. All families of new (kinder or other) students entering Huff are invited.

Please donate to the Camp Fire coin drive this week!

Don't forget to bring your loose change or dollar bills to donate to the Camp Fire fund to support the fire fighters who lost their homes or were injured fighting the fire! The 5th grade Bucket Club will continue to collect donations before and after school through Friday morning. The jars will be in the office during the school day, if you would like to give then. Proceeds will go to the CDF Firefighters Benevolent Foundation, which collects funds for firefighters who have fallen or who were severely injured in the line of duty. Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated!!

Huff Family Giving Tree

Happy Holidays! This year, we have an opportunity to help some of the neediest families in our district. We would like to help them out for the holidays by giving them gifts and supplies of their choice. Please use this link to a Google doc with each family listed on a separate tab. Each tab contains a list of items per family member. If you are interested in helping out, please sign up on the Google doc and include your e-mail address.

Here are few other things to note:

  • Please bring UNWRAPPED, NEW gifts to the Huff office no later than December 13.
  • Please attach a tag containing the Family #, person (mom, dad, daughter etc) and age of the recipient so that we can ensure it gets to the correct person. (For example, Family # 5, mom or Family # 5 Daughter, age 5)
  • Suggested spending guideline - max of $40 per item (not per person).

Online Auction Sales Closes December 31

Now is the time to finish any remaining auction purchases online! If you have already registered for the auction with your credit card, you may simply sign in, shop, and check out. If you did not attend the auction or register, then you need to register on the auction site, enter your credit card information, then shop and checkout. There are may great items and parties still available for purchase! The complete list of open parties is available here.

Still need to pick up items you won at the auction? All envelopes are available for pickup at the Huff office. If you have physical items or gift baskets, please contact Lavanya Ramakrishnan at to arrange pickup. All items must be picked up December 20.

Let Me Run

Let Me Run is looking for at least two parent volunteers to coach the spring Let Me Run season at Huff. Let Me Run is a 7-week wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, we encourage boys to develop their psychological, emotional, and social health, in addition to their physical health. (think Healthy Masculinity). This program is for 4th-5th grade boys. Your boy can participate in 3rd grade if you are a coach. The program prepares all boys to run a 5K in mid-May (May 11, 2019).

Practice times and days are TBD based on the coaches. They can be any time after school and/or on weekends. Coaches do not need to be runners. Head coach needs to attend a training led by fellow Huff parent, Sheetal Shah, on Jan 12 or Feb. 9 at the El Camino YMCA. Training is 3.5 hours long. Assistant coaches will be trained by the head coach before the season begins.

Please help us continue this program at the school where it all started on the west coast! The program will be cancelled if we can’t find a coach. If you are interested in being a coach, please contact Sheetal at

ELPAC Testers Needed

JOB DESCRIPTION: MVWSD is looking for qualified individuals interested in administering the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California Test (ELPAC) to the District’s K-8 English language learners. All examiners will be certified by successfully completing the district-sponsored screening and training. $21 an hour. Must be a fluent English speaker. Please email if you are interested.

Check your PowerSchool Parent Portal Access now to prepare for open enrollment

The time for you to confirm your child’s enrollment for the next school year is coming up. Beginning Jan. 7, parents will be able to log on to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to enroll their children for 2019-20.

Make sure you have access now! By mid-December, you will be receiving an email containing your web access ID and password for your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account with instructions for a creating an account, if you don’t currently have one.

Many middle school parents currently use PowerSchool Parent Portal for elective selection and grades, assignment and attendance monitoring. Some elementary parents have accounts from past student enrollment processes.

School meetings coming up. Open Enrollment for new MVWSD students starts Jan. 7.

If your child turns 5 years old between September 2 – December 2 of the current school year, he/she may qualify for transitional kindergarten (TK). The info night for TK parents is December 11 at 6:00 PM at Theuerkauf Elementary.

For NEW students: Open Enrollment is from January 7-February 3 online. You can register your child for the 2019-20 school year when online registration opens on January 7 here: For CURRENT students in transitional kindergarten-7th grade: Parents will be asked by email to confirm enrollment in January 7 - February 3.

Apply for preschool now!

The award-winning MVWSD Preschool Program is currently accepting applications for both free, state preschool and fee-based spaces for the 2019-20 school year. The enrollment process will begin February 2019. We will be offering part-day and full-day classes to children who will be at least 2 years and 9 months old by September 1, 2019 until they are age eligible for kindergarten. Colorcycle (Marker/Dry Erase recycling)

Please continue to help support our efforts by having your kids drop off throughout the year, any used markers, sharpies, highlighters or dry erase markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located in classrooms for your child to deposit the markers. If you are publicizing a pre-approved program and would like a short blurb in the newsletter, please send your submission directly to by the Sunday before the issue in which you would ideally like it to appear.
