Principal’s Message: Profile of a Graduate

Huff’s mission is to inspire, prepare, and empower every student in our learning community, and that means providing all students with opportunities to develop key attributes that we believe will lead to long term success. These attributes, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, etc. together make up our Profile of a Graduate, which is a central part of our three-year plan, the Roadmap to the Capstone.

Efforts such as PBL, STEM, and Field Trips are aimed specifically to foster the ‘POG'. Starting back in October, our 3rd-5th graders have had the opportunity to participate in student town hall meetings where they identify student concerns and solutions. Also, in the works is a special series of POG lunchtime activities and an exciting new school-wide event that will give students the chance to practice all of the attributes in one way or another. It’s an exciting time to be a student at Huff!

Key Traffic Update: Please read

The changes to the Martens-Phyllis/Grant intersection is nearing completion. However, one critical update is still to come. Martens Avenue between Grant and Huff is a NO PARKING ZONE. We have been informed that the City of Mountain View intends to paint the curb red but they haven’t painted the curb yet as of December 4. There is no way for cars to get by if people use that section for parking!

Extra credit: please help by calling the city to ask them to come and paint the cub as soon as possible. We will do everything we can on our end too.

Let Me Run

Let Me Run is looking for at least two parent volunteers to coach the spring Let Me Run season at Huff. Let Me Run is a 7-week wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, we encourage boys to develop their psychological, emotional, and social health, in addition to their physical health. (think Healthy Masculinity). This program is for 4th-5th grade boys. Your boy can participate in 3rd grade if you are a coach. The program prepares all boys to run a 5K in mid-May (May 11, 2019)

Practice times and days are TBD based on the coaches. They can be any time after school and/or on weekends. Coaches do not need to be runners. Head coach needs to attend a training led by fellow Huff parent, Sheetal Shah, on Jan 12 or Feb. 9 at the El Camino YMCA. Training is 3.5 hours long. Assistant coaches will be trained by the head coach before the season begins.

Please help us continue this program at the school where it all started on the west coast! The program will be cancelled if we can’t find a coach. If you are interested in being a coach, please contact Sheetal at

Be in School; Be on Time

Why is it important that students are in school regularly? Research shows that school attendance is a strong indicator of success. It's about students learning what they need to know, belonging to the school community, and being part of the team that is preparing them with good habits for high school.
